The Karachi Working Canvas: Monograph I

$0.00
sold out
Archival Study — Available by Commission

This is an original working canvas of a master woodblock printer, gifted from a multi-generational family workshop in Karachi.

Never intended to be saved, this canvas spent months pinned to a printer's table, serving as the silent foundation for thousands of individual strikes. It has been pressed, inked, and saturated hundreds of times over. The intricate layers are the accumulated, physical record of that daily labor, pattern overlapping pattern, color bleeding into color, laid down in service of the textiles it was meant to create.

The beauty here was entirely unprompted. It arrived slowly, born of rhythmic repetition and active time. Because it is the organic byproduct of a living workshop, it is an absolute singular work of art.

Specifications

  • Dimensions: 46" H × 84" W (Stretched and ready for framing)

  • Medium: Industrial textile ink on heavy-gauge cotton canvas

  • Origin: Karachi, Pakistan

  • Availability: This original piece remains in our private collection. We work directly with the master workshop to source authenticated working canvases as they are retired from active production. Select pieces from this ongoing series are available exclusively by inquiry.
